What to Expect From Sedation Dentistry

If you suffer from dental anxiety, sedation dentistry is an excellent way to receive the dental care you need without fear or discomfort. Dr. Dennis Baik has focused his practice around sedation dentistry, receiving the additional training necessary to provide patients with IV sedation in our San Jose, CA dental office. We encourage you to visit our 95123 office to find out which type of sedation is right for you. You can schedule an appointment by calling (408) 676-5321.

If you are wondering what to expect from sedation dentistry, it really depends on the type of sedation you receive. Dennis Baik, DDS offers nitrous oxide (laughing gas), which is used for conscious sedation. With this degree of sedation, you will be awake yet completely calm. It is as if you are detached or separated from what is happening, even though you know that you are aware of it. This state of calm is all that is needed for most people to completely relax and have a positive dental experience. When scheduling a teeth cleaning or having a cavity treated, this level of sedation can calm the nerves and prevent any discomfort.

If you are having a more intensive procedure completed, like receiving dental implants or having a root canal, you may want IV sedation. This is a greater level of sedation, and only a few dentists offer IV sedation in their dental office. Dennis Baik, DDS does because of our commitment to ensuring that all our patients can receive the dental care they need, regardless of their anxiety levels. When our San Jose, CA patients visit us for IV sedation, they are put to sleep. With IV sedation, you are generally not aware of what is happening around you and will simply wake up once the procedure is complete. In this way, patients of our 95123 dental office do not experience any discomfort or anxiety.
